Prince | #illomusicfriday

I’ve been wanting to try my hand at a paisley pattern for some time. I finally decided to go for it with this #illomusicfriday. I’ve got pattern design and illustration all in one! I like the idea of my characters wearing my patterns. Music is by Prince, arranged by AJ in a princely court style.

Smoke | Illustration Friday

This has been a slow month and by a slow month, I really mean a slow month for illustration. Everything else in life has been quite busy! So we’ve ended up breaking from #illomusicfriday for awhile. I don’t have music from AJ this time, since he’s finishing up with his master’s degree, but I’ve been itching to illustrate. Here is SMOKE. I was drawing a scene of a child rescuing someone among a band of explosive volcanoes, but I found myself more interested in the volcanoes themselves. This volcano was particularly persistent.

Adventure | Illustration Friday | #illomusicfriday

This one was a joy to work on. I had to do this one fast, which helped me to loosen up, and I like the results!

The creature is based on an old scientific illustration I did when I was starting my “Eleanor’s Fantastical Beasts” series. That series didn’t become much of a “series”, but I think I should pick it back up again. Presenting the Porguanallama of old.

Prize | #illomusicfriday

I had to rush through this one, so I left out some details and refinements to the background, but here it is! Every piece I learn something new, and that’s even true for this one. That’s one of the reasons we’re doing this. I can’t help but laugh every time I hear the music AJ did for Prize. It’s a perfect match for the illustration too.

A New Art Challenge! Illustration Friday and #illomusicfriday

It’s time for another art challenge! The D30 art challenge I did a year and a half ago really helped me build some momentum. So even though I don’t feel I have a enough time to do this, I’m going to give it an earnest effort. Introducing Illustration Friday! Now Illustration Friday has been around for some time, but I’m committing myself to a weekly illustration practice. So when they post a word on Friday, I will be there to see what I can illustrate based on that word. This week’s word was “Work,” and here is my illustration inspired by that word.

But guess what?! There’s MORE! Here’s where it really starts to get interesting. In addition to me participating in Illustration Friday, my husband AJ of AJ Harbison Music is going to join in. He is going to write a short piece of music inspired by the word as well. Sometimes he’ll see what I’ve already illustrated, sometimes not, but it’s going to be fun either way! I’m excited that we get to make this a collaborative project! I present to you our collaborative “Work”.
